This is Ingres's famous painting, "The Turkish Bathers".
Much scholarship has been done on this painting, and it is not my interest to write what has already been said before.
What I will say is that I'm sick of 'idealized nudes'. I find it dishonest for one thing.
These ladies are all pretty much posed, like statues.
Don't get me wrong, I love the painting.
Maybe I will do a version of this with pubic hair, and I can have them be more like how women really are.
This painting reflected the thoughts of the day, but I want to do something different that is more today, more now.
By the way, the name of 'Ingres' is pronounced 'Ang'. It took me years to discover that. Thank fortune I had a good art history teacher.
Yeah, there isn't one chick eating another out. What's up with that?
Also, women's legs are always closed in these paintings. Women just don't sit like that all the time, especially when they are really comfortable.
Anyway, it is a good painting, and still nice to look at. The circular composition makes it really pleasant in which to contemplate all of that flesh.
Imagine being a guy in that setting. Seems like it would be a lot of fun to be there.
